My name is Jason; I created a poplar dating site, so I can speak from personal experience on how to do the impossible. I will make this very simple and break down the steps into 3 basic areas to get you started. So let's begin.

1. Motivation

There is a reason why I selected this first. Without motivation, you cannot accomplish anything. What motivated me was the opportunity to be my own boss. I wanted to escape the rat race. Everything else was secondary. Sure, helping others find love online was a motivation as well, but it was not as strong as my primary motive. What motivated me might be different that what motivates you. But, nonetheless, you have to be motivated for the long and arduous process. I took me 6 months from start to finish to complete my site. And this was for first major website undertaking I have ever accomplished.

2. Programming Skills

If you are going to create a dating site from scratch you can either pay someone to create your site for you, or create it yourself. If you choose to create the site on your own, you will need programming skills (HTML, Asp.net, Java, JavaScript, etc.) and graphic design skills (Photoshop, Illustrator, Gimp). Luckily for me, I had previous programming skills that I obtain in college, however, when it came graphic design, I had none. So during the process of creating my site, I learned all that I could, and created various graphic that I placed on the site, which it "pop" with coolness.

3. Search Engine Optimization/Marketing

So after you created your new dating site, how do you get new users to it? You accomplish this by doing two things. The first is to optimize your site for search engines. Doing this, will allow search engines to find your site, crawl your site often and indexed your site so that it shows up on the results page. Another avenue that needs exploring is to use Google AdWords to market the newly created site. AdWords, allows you to create ads, which are then shown on other websites, next to search results, as well as on mobile devices.
